Designs and implements die cast manufacturing processes; determines sequence of operations; forecasts machinery/equipment/operator process time requirements; designs new tooling and redesigns current tooling; programs manufacturing robotic equipment and machining centers; and prepares operational standards. Participates in determining manufacturing process improvement targets.
**Offers a $1.50 Shift differential for 2nd & 3rd shifts**
Responsible for assisting in the design, layout, and implementation of new die cast processes. Analyzes and modifies of current manufacturing processes to implement process improvements. Programs manufacturing robotic equipment and machining centers. Determines processing sequence, optimal processing time requirements, and prepares operational standards. Modifies current tooling designs; prepares customer claim reports; and determines and implements Poke Yoke devices. May assist in the preparation of department budget recommendations for needed equipment replacements/improvements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs design and layout of new manufacturing operations in the die cast operations and oversees and leads in their implementation.
- Analyzes and modifies current manufacturing die cast operations including production equipment relocations.
- Determines the optimal sequence of die cast operations.
- Programs production equipment including robotic extractors, deburring robots, etc.
- Conducts time and motion studies to determine the optimal time requirements for each station in a production operation including conducting cycle time studies for OEE improvements.
- Analyzes high rejection rates of assigned processes and implements appropriate countermeasures.
- Modifies existing tooling for design improvements in production processes.
- Prepares customer claim reports (5S report).
- Determines and implements appropriate Poke Yoke devices for quality assurance.
- May on occasion oversee the activities of a Process Engineer I as assigned.
- Prepares operational standards for assigned manufacturing operations.
- Applies Deming principles and other root cause analysis tools when analyzing production processes and uses those tools to make appropriate improvements.
- Participates in the development and implementation of improvement plans that target reductions in manufacturing operational time while avoiding adverse impact to production operators.
- Closes all assigned project gaps, Controlled Document Change Requests, Change Notification Evaluation Reports, etc. prior to transfer of part responsibility.
- Performs other process engineering related functions as assigned.
Improvement Activities:
- Applies Deming principles and other root cause analysis tools when analyzing problems within the associates department and makes appropriate recommendations for improvements.
- May participate in Quality Circle improvement teams when possible.
- Performs other related improvement functions as assigned
Education/Experience/Training (minimum required):
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering or no less than 5 years of progressively more responsible process engineering related experience in die casting or related operations.
- Must have good computer skills in developing reports using basic spreadsheets and graphs as well as word processing.
- Must skilled in the use of Deming and/or other root cause analysis tools as well as knowledge of time and motion study techniques
